The Ordinary Bitter

The Ordinary Bitter

  • Anspach & Hobday, England

A modern interpretation of a classic Ordinary bitter, more colour but the same lightness in body and immeasurable drink-ability. All that was needed to complete the beer was to perfectly balance the malt and sweetness with hop bitterness and aroma. For me there was only one option for bittering and late hopping with a cheeky New World twist to help the aroma. The level was set with East Kent Goldings, providing mellow bitterness but enough to get the IBUs to the desired amount. A late addition of EKG for that fruit cake character. The New World twist comes in the way of throwing in a liberal amount of Chinook during the whirpool. Adding an extra dimension of spice and pine resin. The original session beer, Ordinary Bitters formed a cornerstone of English drinking culture. Perfectly balanced between malt sweetness and hop bitterness, our interpretation is brought up to date with the use of US Chinook hops. Delicate hop aromas of pine, spice and dark fruits are followed by a smooth, full bodied palate with notes of biscuit and caramel. Brewed with EKG and Chinook.

So, we're pretty dead set on the idea that there's probably no better three-way combo for those high-juice, low-bitterness hop bombs we're so accustomed to making than Azacca, Citra, and Mosaic. When used with juuuust the right amount of balance, these three stateside smashers bring incredible pineapple, mango and juicy tangerine notes play perfectly off the bubblegum and berry medley of Mosaic and fresh cut citrus fruits from Citra. Where to take it from there though? How about some smaller dry-hop charges of Nelson and Loral to create some next level complexity? Sure, why not. An additional layer of gooseberry and white wine grape dryness, along with a dark fruit medley of cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant round off this awesome IPA gusto

Oppigårds Easter Ale is a seasonal beer to suit easter and spring. The color is dark copper tones like our Winter Ale but not as dark as we use less dark caramel malt and no chocolate malt. In this beer we have focused a little less on bitterness and increased the element of floral and citrus coming from the American hop varieties Cascade and Centennial. Sold in 50cl bottle and 30 liter barrels during the easter season. Malts: Pale ale malt, light caramel malt, dark caramel malt, melanoidin malt . Hops: Pacific Gem, Cascade and Centennial. Food pairings Our Easter beer that fits the typical Swedish easter smorgasbord. Pickled herring, cured salmon and "Jansson’s Temptation" (potato, onion and pickled anchovies baked in cream). At dinner, people usually eat roast lamb with potato gratin and asparagus, or some other suitable side dish.

Exotic Sour Fruity Loop Loopy Fruit A big sour bursting with fruit, fruit and more fruit! Like walking around an orchard, with a tangy twist. Lush! After making fruited sour beers for the better part of 13 years, we wanted to combine all the best fruits labeled as exotic in polar Sweden into one. And so we did.  We added a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a lot of everything else. Sourlicious fruits from all over the world come together in perfect sunny harmony.  Although the road was not as straightforward as this text might suggest, it was all worthwhile because it was pure bliss when we reached our destination. Candy!

House of Pale is one of the recipes we’ve taken from our beloved mad laboratory in Copenhagen, BRUS. A New England pale ale with Ekuanot hops. It has seen many changes and tweaks over this year, experimenting with hop doses and overall ‘crispiness’ - and now we’re pretty sure we’ve got exactly what we’ve been looking for.

Staropramen Granat is a unique lager which proudly embodies our brewing traditions. This beer is made based on the original recipe from 1884. The special sprinkling process, mixing pale and specialty malts is what gives the beer its unique granat (ruby red) color.

Spitfire is one of the UK’s best-loved beers with an international reputation as a Great British Classic. Since its inception as a one-off brew back in 1990, Spitfire has enjoyed phenomenal success, earning a Royal Warrant and protected status as a Kentish Ale. A true classic, Spitfire Amber (draught: 4.2% ABV; bottle/can/mini keg: 4.5% ABV) is the head of the Spitfire family and a true taste of Kent. It was first brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, played out in the skies above Kentish soil. It is brewed using 100% Kentish hops, the finest malt and water drawn from a well deep beneath Shepherd Neame’s Faversham brewery. Spitfire Amber combines the pick of Kentish hops (Target, Challenger, East Kent Goldings, First Gold) to layer bitter orange marmalade flavour on top of sweet biscuits and caramel malts for a peppery dry finish. While the great taste has remained constant throughout its history, the Spitfire family has grown to include golden ale and lager, each imbued with the distinctive Spitfire spirit. Today Spitfire has a dynamic new look reflecting the nature of the iconic plane that inspired its creation and befitting its status as an ale of substance and character.

Made with 17 different varieties of fallen apple, pressed and then kept in the dark to mature for a couple of years, it is the crispest way to celebrate any moment.
